The Oaklet shawl by Megan Goodacre. It's free on Ravely. The color is more fall than the picture looks and spine is not really twisted, it's the wind. The yarn was from The Painted Tiger and called Ancient Tomes I learned a lot with this shawl. The first thing is that my purl stitches were a lot bigger than my knit ones. I thought this was because I knit continental but I started watching what I was doing. I hadn't realized that my index finger on my right hand was holding the stitch down. I use that finger to guide the needle but in the process I was holding the stitch in place and causing it to stretch. When I knit I guide the needle but then move my finger to wrap the stitch so it's not holding on anymore. I'm trying to keep an eye on that and just move my hand down a bit to guide the needle so the first stitch is free. If you look up the pattern there is a pretty lace pattern on the border. Mine has a pretty pattern too but the holes don't show at all. I was discussing this with the other girls on the Shady Cels thread and we figured out I yarn over wrong. I was doing yarn overs like I do in crochet and apparently this is backwards form knit and actually called an invisible increase. Because of this I stated another shawl that has lots of yarn overs to try it out and it seems to be working well so far. When I went to block this I put it in the water (with some Soak) and then got busy and didn't get back to it for about two days (not on purpose). When I did get back to it the water was a muddy color which was no big deal but I dried it on a light colored towel which is something I rarely do, since most of my towels are dark and it made a little stain. I mentioned it and felt bad that I made the dyer think something was wrong when it was my fault not hers. The only other thing about this shawl is that it is smaller than I really like. There were instructions for making it bigger and I have a bunch of yarn left over but I was trying to follow the instructions exactly. I want to make it again bigger.
Ok on Saturday I did play WOW but I didn't make any large about of progress. On Sunday I listened to some podcasts. Homespun split into A Homespun House and A Night Bird. I couldn't get Knitting Butterfly to work so I'll have to try again later. I got invited to another podcast that I have heard of but I'm not going to listen to it until I finish Knitting in Circles. Today is Kdrama day. I have an episode of Let's Eat to watch then back to Running Man.
I already said that I started another shawl. It's with my hand spun that has bamboo in it. I finished the first stripy scarf and have enough yarn left over for a hat (or so I hope). I found a pattern but it stats with a tubular cast on that I have never done and it seems fiddly so I'll see. Since I finished a project I want to do at least one repeat on my daughter's socks. I wrote up my husband's sweater as my dissertation and was approved so I want to spend at least an hour a day working on it. I ran out of yellow so the ice cream pillows are on hold for now but I'll pick some up the next time I'm at Walmart. Lastly (I think) I started another stripy scarf for before bed/ waiting room knitting. Wow that's a lot.
I think that's it for today. It's a long post so tomorrow's will probably be short. Have a good day. :)
