This is the first square for my scrap blanket.  It's a little misshapen but I think that won't show when it's sewn with a bunch of other ones.  I think I need to make about 24.  If you remember any of my old projects you might recognize the yarn form my solar flair hat or the rainbow bit in the middle from my daughter's socks or the brown at the end from my stripy socks.  It's made by holding two strands of sock weight yarn together so when one runs put you just tie on another scrap.  I'm almost half way through the next square but I might be stuck there for a little wile till I get more scraps.  I got to the gusset on the fingerless mitts and actually considered working on the cup cake.  This is progress.  The down side is I don't really have any projects that are mindless at the moment.  Not that I mind when I'm at home but when I'm stuck in a waiting room it's not easy.  My family did name draw and so now I have to decide if I will make anything.  I think I will make something very small like a knit ornament for the tree to go along with whatever we buy.  I don't think I will make something big because I don't think it will be appreciate.  Not that they will hate or don't like hand made gifts but they won't put the effort in to care for it or understand how much work goes into things.  I may make some washcloths to go into a grab bag for my husband's family's Christmas but I won't stress myself out making a ton of thing for everyone.

I think that's it.  The temperature is getting close but not breaking the freezing mark yet. There was frost on the ground though and I saw a beautiful leaf, I wished I had my camera.  It was a bright beautiful red with an edging of frost all around the outside.  If I remember to bring my camera then I won't see anything interesting.  That's the way it always seems to go anyway.  See you next time.

Here are the finished stripy socks.  I like them but I would have preferred other colors.  I will have a picture of my feet in the socks at the end of post.  It's just not a good picture.  I learned a trick from James of Dancing Geek.  When you are doing ribbing and you change colors you do a row of knit.  It doesn't make it less stretchy and it makes the row look even and not bumpy for the knits and purls.  I haven't been doing much else but I really need to finish the fingerless gloves for my niece so I can get on to the toddler ones.

I have't been doing much except listening to podcasts,  I'm caught up on every thing as far as I know. I know there was a lot of problems the last few years with Blip kicking podcasters off.  The problem is that because of this some of the older episodes on some podcasts are gone now. I'm not really OCD but it bothers me a bit that I can't go back to episode one.  It makes me want to just watch/listen to new ones that I can start at the beginning.  I'm still finishing Yarnivore but I did finish Dancing Geek. Sadly Knitabulls has decided not to continue.

I didn't post yeterday because I was having issues with depression.  I'm o.k. today but yesterday was pretty yucky.  I almost didn't post today because I couldn't find my camera but I got it done. My daughter is on a school trip today so I have to go get her later this evening.  I think that's about it.  I'll see you next time.

Here is the scarf.  It still curls a bit but not nearly as much.  The yarn seems flatter (for lack of a better word) after the laundry.  The texture, on one side, matches the hat.  I didn't work on the fingerless mitts much. I did finish the socks and I used the scraps to finish up a blanket square.  I also started some long fingerless gloves for my daughter.  They are going to have a heart pattern all the way down the arms.  I did some charity knitting and that's about it.

I don't think I have anything else to say.  I have been listening to the Dancing Geek podcast and that's it. His podcasts are long (really long) but they are interesting.  The kids had a half day today but they had a dentist appointment so I just called them off school. I feel like I should say something else but I can't think of anything so I'll end here.  Have a good day.

This may not have a lot of knitting and a bunch of complaining.  Here is last weeks charity knitting. I have been working on the fingerless mitts.  I finished one and and am working on the second.  I realized I really don't like picking up stitches for the thumb. I've never had to do that before.  I've picked up stitches for a heel gusset but that was unpleasant as well.  I think it would have helped if I had DPNs.  The pattern isn't hard but I don't really enjoy it as much as I thought I would.  I think the toddler mitts will be easier because they won't have thumbs.  This is also why I probably won't ever make gloves with fingers.

I didn't blog on Wednesday because I was depressed.  I know it may sound silly but I was really sad that I was probably going to have to cut my hair.  I hadn't seen any critters in a few days but then I found one in my hair.  I was actually crying a bit.  It didn't help that the toilet had over flowed in the middle of the night so I was overtired.  I was explaining/complaining to my friend and we decided to try a suffocation method. I used some of her hair grease that is the consistency of petroleum jelly.  I also did my daughter's hair when she came home from school.  I left mine in for 24 hours and washed (or tried to) hers out before school.  When she left for school her hair was wet so I didn't realize how much hadn't come out. She looked like her hair was wet all day.  I felt so bad sending her to school like that.  It didn't really come out of my hair either and so I looked it up on line.  The suggestions that were most common, and seemed to work, was using dish detergent, since it is made to cut through grease, and specifically Dawn.  That made sense since that is what they use for getting oil off water birds after an oil spill.  I bought some (since what I had at home was generic) but I probably should have used the original and not the pretty smelling one.  I washed my hair and my daughter's multiple times and it's much better today, though it's not all out.  Because of this I haven't checked my hair yet.  Hopefully we are done and yes I have washed the sweaters and blankets again. As weird as it sounds this whole thing is actually very emotionally exhausting for me.

The other little story that was just a tiny bit irritating is also about my daughter.  I went over to my friend's apartment that is across the parking lot.  I knew Amey would be home soon but figured she had her key so she could be home by herself for five minutes.  I basically had my hand on the door nob to go home when I got a phone call.  It was from the office and they said "Amey is here and she is locked out can we give her the key?"  I said, "Oh, I thought she had her key.  I'm just at the neighbor's so I'll be right there."  As I was walking out of my friend's house I met my daughter walking out of the office.  There were two things I noticed right away.  1. The key was around her neck.  2. She was barefoot.  What happened was she could get in the apartment and took her shoes off (she hates wearing shoes).  She noticed the music was still on, my coat etc. was there, and the car was parked out front.  She just wanted to know where I was.  Sigh.  So she got talked to about walking around in October outside with out shoes, not to worry unless I wasn't back before her brother got home, and the first place to check would have been the neighbor not the office.  I guess I'm glad she knew to go there but really does she have to make me look bad?  At least it was before I did her hair so she didn't look greasy on top of it. I know it's a first world problem but it's still a pain.

O.k. I think that's it for my complaining, for today at least.  It's Mooky's birthday today.  He wants to help make the cake so we will do it once he gets home from school.  He is turning 8 but his emotions are a little younger so he's sad he's not getting lots of presents.  He's hard to buy for because he doesn't like much.  Hopefully for Christmas he won't be rude to anyone.  We're working on it.  I'm going to the school to volunteer in about and hour or so so I may have a story when I get back.  I'll see you next time.

There is a creeper in my cabinet! If you don't know, its a character from the game "Minecraft."  My daughter got a little figure and put him in the cabinet.  I think he (she?) looks really cute there so I left it and took a picture.  No it's not craft related but I thought it was cute.

I washed the scarf and it flattened out.  I'm a little disappointed in the yarn.  It's really soft in the ball but when I washed it (on hot, not the way it says on the label) it came out really stiff and almost scratchy.  I dried it on hot (not the instructions on the label) and it came back a little softer but not as nice as it was before I washed it.  I usually wash things on cold but with the lice issue I was being careful with the hot water.  I have to tuck the ends in and then I'll take a picture.  I made one of the fingerless mitts.  It wasn't hard but I kept reading it wrong and having to rip out.  The pattern is in reverse stockinette but I don't like to purl so much, so I reversed the knits and purls and then turned it right side out when I was done.  It was something Amy Beth (Fat Squirrel Speaks) suggested and it works. I've been working on the stripy socks a little too.  It has now become my waiting room knitting. I think that's all the crafting.

I have listened to a bunch of podcasts.  Even though I wasn't done with Yarnivore I listened to a new one from England called Dancing Geek.  He is so funny and his podcasts are really long.  He only has about seven episodes so it will be easy to catch up and go back to Yarnivore.  I don't know why but for some reason my computer hasn't been running well so some of the podcasts have been hard to watch.  I have them all watched/ listened to now (well the ones with new episodes) so I think I may play WOW tomorrow.

I think that's it.  I guess it's back to a boring life. lol  I'll leave you with a picture of an orange tree, I'll see you next time.

Monday, October 20, 2014

Here is the October picture.  It was taken at about 8 in the morning.  You can see the leaves are going from the trees.  I should have added the picture I took of a tree full of orange leaves, I'll try and remember for next time.

I have done some charity knitting and I'll put the picture of that for next time.  I finished my nephew's scarf and started on my niece's fingerless mitts.  The scarf curls terribly but after I wash it I will block it and see if that fixes it.  If it's still curly it will just have to be that way but at least I'll make an attempt.  I haven't found any lice in a few days so when it's been a week I'll start on the little fox.  I'm afraid to say I haven't seen lice in case I see some.  Hopefully I have gotten out of the funk I was in and be able to make more things.

I finished the kdrama Plus 9 Boys.  It was cute drama.  In Korea everyone ages one year up all at the same time on Chinese New Year.  This is how it is possible for all the boys to have their age end in 9 for a whole year at the same time.  The boys in question are 9,19. 29, and 39.  The 9, 19, and 29 year olds are brothers and the 39 year old is their uncle. They all live together with their mom/sister since the dad/brother-in-law died eight years ago.  The ten year age gap is explained by the mom and dad going on a trip every ten years for their anniversary.  The 9 year old got very popular when he was little for being in a movie but now that he is a little older he is not as cute and is getting passed over for parts.  It doesn't help that he is a terrible actor and very arrogant about his past popularity.  The 19 year old is very full of himself.  He thinks he's all that and loves to post selfies of himself with cheesy little thoughts. He's good at judo but in an important match he accidentally poops on himself and loses.  He kind of give up on judo for a bit and becomes obsessed with a girl he keeps seeing and thinks it's destiny.  She is not exactly what she seems so that causes conflict as well.  The 29 year old has a mad crush for a co-worker but he's afraid to say anything and risk losing the friendship. As an added wrinkle he did something in their past that really hurt her so he has to be careful.  The 39 year old uncle is a TV producer who gets bumped from a music show to a kids show because of a mistake.  He is getting hounded to get married but his heart was broken ten years ago and he can't get over it.  The show goes through with the year with them and it has a happy ending though it felt a tiny bit rushed. I would recommend it.

The other kdramas I have stated are Cantabile Tomorrow and Modern Farmer.  Cantabile Tomorrow is based on the manga/anime Nodame Cantabile.  There is an almost OCD pianist that really wants to be a conductor.  He meets a girl who is sloppy and a bit crazy.  I'm sure they will fall in love but right now it only has two episodes out right now.  It's really funny to me and not in the over the top way.  Modern Farmer is about a washed up rock band who move to the country to grow cabbage to make money to make a new album.  It's funny too but in a over the top crazy style.

I think that's it.  I'm sure I'll think of something I missed. Hopefully everything will go well this week,  I'll see you next time.

Friday, October 17, 2014

No I haven't blogged all week and I don't even have a picture.  I don't know if it's my depression is acting up or what but I haven't had any motivation.  I feel like I'm moving slow, not getting anything done and been tired all the time.  I'm trying to get back on track and today I feel better than I have in a wile.  Once I get my energy back I'll be able to get some more things done. Sorry.

I did do a little charity knitting.  The scarf is almost done then I will start on the fingerless mitts.  I think I may actually finish the scarf tonight and if I do I'll work on the stripy socks.

We are still battling the lice.    I don't think they are resistant, I think I thought I had it and wasn't being vigilant.  I really love my long hair.  I really don't like myself much but I like my hair and eyes.  If we don't get the lice taken care of by Sunday I'm going to cut my hair.  I'm sad and nervous about this.  As a consolation, if I have to cut it, I will dye it some sort of interesting color maybe from Manic Panic.  We'll see.

Over last weekend I did finish Surplus Princess.  It's a take on The Little Mermaid so some things are predictable.  Basically there is a mermaid that is a obsessed with cell phones and a celebrity chef that she finds very cute.  One day wile she is watching him cook by the Han River he falls in.  She grabs him and kisses him (very deeply) and then his (female) assistant rescues him the rest of the way.  He has a vague memory of the incident and is looking for the girl he kissed.  The mermaid looks for a way to become human so she can meet him since she feels it's love.  Yes, she finds a way to become human and she has to find a way to find love in 100 days or she will fade away.  She moves into a share house and meets some interesting characters.  The show use a lot of pop culture parodies.  It is a funny show but not deep at all.  It was cut from the original 14 episodes to 10 so the end is rushed.  I would reccomed it but it's not one that will make you think.

I guess that's it.  Hopefully I will have a better week tomorrow.  Have a good day.

This is my nephew's scarf.  I am sad about the curling but I am happy I figured out how to match the hat.  I'm thinking of trying to block it, even though it's acrylic, to see if I can get rid of the curling.  At last count it was over 40" so I'm almost done.  I was originally planning the toddler mitts with out thumbs but I'm thinking maybe I should put them in. I'll decide when I get to it.  I asked my sister who does Christmas name draw to pick names soon so we can know who we have early.  Depending on who it is I may make something for them.  We'll see.

I listened to all my podcasts and a few of Yarnavore.   Wendy of Knit One Heart Too has kids my the same age as mine.  I knew they were close but she said their ages and they are almost exact the only thing is her kids are a grade above because of the birthday cut off.  For kdrama I'm catching up on the ones I missed wile I was watching Fated to Love You.  Surplus Princes was supposed to run for about sixteen episodes but I guess it wasn't popular so it was cut to ten.  I'll finish it and write a little review.  I caught up on Running Man as well.  My computer and Dramafever weren't getting along for a wile so it was hard to watch. The episode to promote My Lovely Girl had me laughing harder than I had at Running Man in a long time.  Kwang Soo looks surprisingly good in make up.  I think it's episode 214 but Dramafever calls it 125.  My view of Rain has changed. Before I watched My Lovely Girl  the only thing I knew of Rain was the "La song" and "30 Sexy" (Dirty Sexy).  Both left me an impression of him as juvenile and his songs just filled with sex.  He seems much more mature in the kdrama, I found out he played my favorite character in Speed Racer, and on Running Man he was sweet and helpful.  I know the character you see in videos is one dementional but it really is nice to see a more well rounded view.

I think that's it.  The kids have yesterday off and Monday as well.  There is a VIXX concert coming up that my daughter would have loved to go to but we found out about it to late. The weather is still nice even as it gets a little cooler.  I'm o.k. with no adventures,  I'll see you next time.

These are the little hat and mitts I made for my charity knitting.  The hat is ribbed so it should grow with the baby.  I really need to get these things washed and mailed.  I've been working on the scarf for my nephew and I'm almost done.  After that I have the patterns for the baby mitts and fingerless mitts ready.  After Sunday, if I haven't found any more lice, I'll work on the little fox.  I bought the patter and a couple of extra patterns since she was having a sale.  My daughter chose a baby bunny and my son chose a Snorlax from Pokemon.  Maybe I'll get around to those eventually.  I have too many plans.

I finished Fated To Love You.  I liked it and would recommend it.  The painful parts were very painful (have a box of Kleenex ready) but there was so much cute that evened it out.  The plot is a bit predictable but it's still a lot of fun.  Kim Mi Young refers to herself as a post-it note girl, easily used and thrown away, at her office.  She has a hard time saying "No" to any request so she gets all the extra work dumped on her.  She works like Cinderella and dreams that her prince will come some day.  Lee Gun is a wealthy CEO and a royal descendant with a weird laugh and hair.  He is madly in love with his girlfriend Se Ra, a prima ballerina, and plans to propose on vacation since Se Ra is now back from the U.S. and planning to retire.  Mi Young wins a vacation to the same spot and goes with a man she thinks likes her.  Gun has recently bought a factory and plans to close it.  The mangers (Drama Beans calls them the Soap Suds duo) plan to ruin Guns proposal by drugging him and having him sleep with a prostitute.  In the process of drugging gun they accidentally drug Mi Young as well.  Both of our leads stumble to their rooms and Mi Young accidentally ends up in Gun's (it's a 9/6 confusion) and they end up having sex.  In the morning everything blows up.  It turns out one of the Soap Suds Duo is Mi Young's brother in-law, the guy Mi Young brought is a jerk that is just using her, and Se Ra never shows up. Mi Young and Gun come to and understanding and plan never to see each other again. She goes back to being a post-it note (even though he told her to be super glue) and he goes back to managing his business and is sad that Se Ra chose ballet over him.  The problem comes when Mi Young discovers she is pregnant.  Now the couple has to navigate their families, old love, and each other as they figure out what to do about the baby.  Apparently it is a custom to give the baby a cute name before it's born (it won't be the real name) and they name theirs "dog poo." Even though there is sex in this one, it's done in a very funny way and nothing risque is shown.  Because I have been binge watching this show I'm a little behind one my other dramas so I'll try and catch up tomorrow.

I didn't blog yesterday because I couldn't find my camera.  Tomorrow the kids have off school. Today I did a bunch of running around so I didn't get much done.  I guess that's about it. I guess I don't have anything else to say.  I'll see you next time.

Tuesday, October 7, 2014

There are a lot of pictures this time.  I should have taken a picture of them all in one big group. These are all the accessories that I am sending along with the hats. The butterflies were heaver that I thought they would be.  I still have to put pins on the back or I maybe send pins along and let my sister do it so that she can make sure they are securely attached to the hats.  The list of the patterns I used is on my Ravelry pattern page.

I've been making some progress on the scarf that goes with my nephew's hat.  Wile it is growing it's going to be a wile till it's long enough.  It mostly looks the way I want except since it's a kind of ribbing I didn't think it would curl but it is.  Since it's for a little boy and not a fancy piece I won't  worry about it, just make a note of it for the future. After the scarf are the fingerless gloves and baby mitts for the nieces.  If I can get this lice thing taken care of I'll work on the little fox.  I think I'll buy the pattern for that today.

I'm still watching Fated To Love You.  I have one episode left.  I watched one episode of the Taiwanese version but I think I like the Korean one better.  Maybe it had a larger budget but the costumes and sets seem better to me.  I just connect to the Korean actors better or maybe it's the story telling.  The funny thing is that I have only watched one Taiwanese drama all the way through and pieces of two others and I think I recognize actors (I didn't look it up).  I think the director's assistant is played bye the weird Chronos Time salesman in Absolute Boyfriend and the brother-in-law is the manager in Fabulous Boys. I'll give a review next time and then I need to catch up on my podcasts.

I forgot to say I when I volunteered at the school on Friday I helped the librarian with the kindergarten computer class.  It was interesting to see the difference between all the kids.  A lot of it was dexterity and that the mice were not made for such small hands but I'm sure having a computer at home or not was part of it.  It kind of made me surprised that lice don't run rampant in  the school because the headphones are not cleaned between classes (not that cleaning headphones is easy).  One student, sitting by the door way, sneezed right as another student waked right by.  He looked up and me with a big smile and said "I'm sick."  I reminded him to cover his mouth so someone else didn't get sick but the damage was done.  It makes me feel for the teachers just a little more.

I think that's it.  The weather is getting colder and has a bite to it in the morning sometimes.  I was saddened to see a Christmas display all set up in a store. I understand the displays being up before Thanksgiving because some people meet then and not at Christmas or they have to mail a present but not before Halloween.  It's still so early in October.  Sigh.  See you next time.

These are kind of hard to see but they are the hair bands/scarves I made.  I actually got two out of each color.  I am planning on sending these along with the fox for the art exchange.  Because of the lice issue in the house I washed them in hot water and dried them as hot as it would go and now they are in a zip lock bag.  I think they will be fine but I'm trying to be careful. I haven't been doing much knitting lately.  I was feeling kind of down for a little wile and when I was feeling better I was binge watching drama and it's a little hard to craft and read subtitles at the same time.  This week should be a better crafting week.

The kdrama I've been watching is called Fated To Love You.  It's a remake of a Taiwanese drama of the same name.  It has twenty episodes and I'm on 17 I think.  I watched one episode of the original but I think I like the Korean version better.  As the formula goes they are about to like each other again so it should be a little more fun from here on out.  I have to catch up on my currently running dramas and a new one that looks interesting starts soon called Modern Farmer.  I'd been watching most of my kdrama on a site called kdrama.com and they just merged with another site that has recaps and news.  We'll see how it runs since up until they did that it was my favorite site for newer shows.

The other thing I'm thinking of doing is called National Novel Writing Month.  It's usually abbreviated as NaNoWriMo and it happens every November.  The goal is throughout the month you write a total of 50,000 words.  There are no prizes jut pride and a few famous novel have been at least started during the month.  I don't think I'll really make a whole novel but a few friends have done it and I figured I can try it. I'll set aside about an hour a day and write what I can and see what comes out.  I don't think I'll show it to anyone but it will be an interesting experiment.

I re-did everyone's hair because of the lice and pulled out a live critter from my daughter's hair.  I was not amused.  I think everyone else is o.k. but I'll re-do her her hair next week and keep a better eye on it this time.  I hope that's the most exciting this week gets.  I have big knitting plans so hopefully I'll have lots things to show you.  See you next time.

This is the late picture from September.  You can see that tree is changing.  I'll get you an October picture eventually.

I don't have much to say so this is going to be short.  For crafting I have been working on charity knitting.  Yesterday I watched Kdrama.  I'm up to episode 9 on Absolute Boyfriend and I started Fated to Love You.  Today I'll listen to podcasts.   My husband went to the emergency room last night for antibiotics and pain killers because he has an abscess tooth.  Another not fun adventure  I really think that's it.  Maybe I'll have something more interesting to say tomorrow.

Wednesday, October 1, 2014

This is the beginning of the the "Don't Cage Me In" socks.  They are longer now and you can really see the "X's."  I messed up somewhere along the line and some of them are off but if it's in a shoe you shouldn't notice.  I finished the flower accessories and tried to start the scarf.  It's not looking the way I want it too and I think the solution is that I need to purl and I don't really want to.  I'm not a big purl fan, I avoid it when I can. Today I'll work on Charity knitting.

I watched some old episodes of Yarnivore.  She throws in a bit here and there about First Nations and that is interesting. There are words and phrases that we take for granted here in the U.S. that are offensive to Canadian First Nations and I never would have thought of it.  Today I think I'll try and catch up on some of the kdramas I have started in the past.  I definitely want to work on Absolute Boyfriend.  I'm thinking about watching Fated to Love You that just finished airing.  I still can't get Running Man to work.

Some of the trees are starting to change.  I did take a September picture but I took it so late I want to wait a bit before I take the October one.  No adventures to speak of, either good or bad. I did do well last moth in doing some sort of movement Monday, Wednesday and Friday, so this month I'm going to add Tuesday and Thursday.  I took a walk outside today and it feels like it's going back toward something I can enjoy.  I think that's it for today.  See you next time.
